What we can help with

Guidance from first call to final farewell.

FinAid can guide your family through practical decisions and help coordinate the service around your traditions, beliefs and wishes.

  • Burial or cremation planning.
  • Collection, care and transport arrangements.
  • Coffin or casket selection.
  • Service venue, programme and family coordination.
  • Flowers, notices, viewing and memorial choices where requested.

Clear costs, no rushed decisions

In a difficult moment, it helps to know what every item costs. We recommend confirming the service inclusions, exclusions and third-party charges in writing before arrangements are finalised.

Pay for what your family needs. There is no need to choose extras that do not matter to your family. We can help you prioritise the practical essentials first, then add meaningful details only if the budget allows.

If there is a funeral policy, ask the insurer whether the claim will be paid to the beneficiary or directly to a service provider, and what documents are needed to submit the claim.

Important South African arrangements

A death must be registered before a burial can take place. A designated and recognised funeral undertaker may assist with reporting the death and obtaining the required documentation, including a burial order where applicable.

Keep the deceased’s identification documents, medical or death notification documents, and family contact details available. Requirements can differ depending on the circumstances of the death, so we will explain what is needed for your situation.

For official guidance, see the South African Government’s information on reporting a death and obtaining a death certificate.

What to ask before choosing a funeral service

  • What is included in the quoted price, and what will be charged separately?
  • Which items are optional, and what lower-cost alternatives are available?
  • Will the service provider assist with death registration and burial documentation?
  • Who is responsible for cemetery, crematorium, venue and other third-party costs?
  • How will the family receive updates and approve final arrangements?
